I love my girls. They are wonderful daughters, sweet to each other {at least they are as I write this post} and I pray that one day they will be amazing wives and mothers.
I was thinking this week how much I have learned from my own mother. Some people have their moms for decades, I had mine for 18 years. In that 18 years she taught me more than some teach their children in a lifetime.
I was thinking of a few this weekend {or, you know, 20-ish}…
To appreciate “old” movies. I love Alfred Hitchcock because of her and know Rear Window by heart.
If there is only a wall in front of you, make your own door.
Do not neglect your neck! You do not want to have a young face and have an old looking neck. {Never understood that one til recently}
Think someone else has greener grass? Maybe you should just water yours more often.
A gallon of tea should always have two cups of sugar!
Hand me downs are still clothes.
Everyone needs to see The Dirty Dozen, The Great Escape, and the Seven Brides for Seven Brothers at least 20 times in their life!
How to illegally tape VHS to VHS:) {yeah I’m a child of the 70′s-80′s}
When {not if} you fall off your bike, cry if you need to, but dust off and get back on it. {I love this. The idea of not going home because of failure but triumph}
Being handicapped is not shameful. It gives you more of an opportunity to get people’s attention so you can share your story.
How to cook and always taste your food before you plate it!
How to be sarcastic:) {THIS one I do quite well:)}
How to sew, cross stitch, paint, and draw.
Humility. {I should clarify. I learned HOW to be humble. Honestly, I don’t always practice it}
The person running the show may be more important than the person in the spotlight.
Don’t compare yourself to what I’ve done. Compare yourself to what GOD is wanting you to do.
How about you? What did your mother, aunt, or grandmother teach you about life that you use to this day?
I would love to read them!
This post is also being used for DAY 2 of the PROBLOGGER and SITS Challenge.

What a great list!!! I love it. How sweet!
You were above me on the challenge, so I wanted to stop by and say hi
Have a great day!

GREAT list. My Mom passed away in 2007 and it’s not always easy to find the good stuff that was there through the bad stuff that came at the end. I’m glad you were able to collect so many positive things to share.
My Mom taught me that accuracy matters and that taking time to read is never a waste of time.
Found you from SITS and the 31DBBB
Beautiful list of memorable tribute to your Mom
I’m stopping by from #31DBBB – great list! I’m a new follower looking forward to reading more!

Lovely post. My mom taught me that a few good friends are better than a hundred acquaintances. She also taught me that your children will always be your babies, whether they are 2 or 32.

My mom had a terminal illness. It was diagnosed when she was pregnant with me, so I never knew anything else but it didn’t make her death and all the stuff that came at the end any easier. I think you will find time will bring some good things to the forefront. Trust me. It took me a while.
Funny that you mention reading. I had that very thing on my list at first (you know, before the edit because it was a mile long). SO glad you came by.

“Think someone else has greener grass? Maybe you should just water yours more often.”
Your mom may very well be a genius.
This post has me thinking of my mother. I see her everyday but now I’m trying to decide what I learned from her. The most important thing I need to do is to tell her I love her as we hardly say that enough.

What a great post and a great tribute to your mom. My mom has taught me (or given me) the gift of perseverance, that independence is a strength, and to always nurture creativity – whether in myself or in others..
