Tuesday Tribute: transl8N PLEASE!!!!

by Mariah on April 13, 2009

I love Tuesday Tributes! Visit Jay and the other tributes to see wut up…that’s my lame attempt at cool lingo:)

Ah, speaking of lingo…my tribute is to all things texting…I know my spellcheck is going to go crazy with this one.

I must be old, because what the heck did you just type on my stinking screen?!?!? That is how I feel after a chat fest with the teens I work with on my favorite possession, the Blackberry Curve. Beautiful piece of machinery. Rabbit trail

Do you remember back in the day when these oh so rad phrases would pop up on every wallet size school picture…K.I.T. (keep in touch) or ttfn (ta ta for now)…

They were so “in” and cool to write. Well, they married, reproduced and their offspring morphed into this mutant world of complete language confusion! Really. Do you know how long it took me to find out what wdymbt means!? I know, half of you are saying what and the other half are saying easy…it means what do you mean by that?

wdyt – dgt – dkdc – yhni……

WHAT??? It actually takes me longer to find the first letter of each phrase in my head and then type it than it would to just type the whole thing out! And then trying to understand what comes over from their screen…I feel like an idiot.

I am keeping up for the most part with the major ones, but when the combos hit, I lose it. Numbers and letters should never be in the same group at once. And stay all caps or no caps. It’s like trying to understand southern accents when you live in the North and vice versa. Just freaking give me some subtitles!

I fear that one day soon, something I type that is innocent to me may end up having Homeland Security at my door.

Well, it’s Ti2G!! My head hurts…

*****update for those who were lost…wdyt-what do you think, dgt-don’t go there, dkdc-don’t know don’t care, yhni-you have no idea (amen)

Great tribute! I know EXACTLY what you mean. Getting messages from my teenage brothers often leads to frustrated phonecalls to say “What did you just say to me??”
Seriously.

I’m such a texting dummy. I met up with a friend from out of state a couple months ago, and she texted me to tell me she was running late. I don’t even have texting on my plan, so when I finally saw her I had to admit that my text back to her was the first text I’d ever written. It’s crazy how prevalent it is everywhere, isn’t it?

Not only is your blog entertaining, but informative as well! :) I had no idea what the majority of those meant! I need a decoder for sure!

Hey SITSTA you might be my BFF and SWAK – but I agree, I don’t know most of the new lingo!
